Parish Church Of St Peter, Slinfold
Although I pass through the parish Of Slinfold every day to go to work, the village lies between the two roads I can use and I don't often go through there unless you are intending to visit really. That said, it is one of the most interesting villages in my area and certainly one of my favourites. There are a lot of old cottages and a good network of footpaths to enjoy..... when the countryside isn't waterlogged!!
The church of St Peter is a Victorian replacement of an earlier medieval one that originally had a white wooden weatherboarded tower rather like those found in Essex. So the present church dates from 1861 and was designed by Benjamin Ferrey who was well known in his day as a competant architect. Until 1970, the tower had a broach spire which was removed then and the pinnacles added to finish the top. In 2010, a small carefully designed extension was added on the north side. The church is very active, along with the rest of the village with many activities going on. When I moved to the area in 1974, my late father got a job at a factory based here on the site of an old brickyard and we nearly moved here. However, this was ruled out in the end as at the time, there was no gas supply!
