From the Balboa Pier, Newport Beach

Newport Beach, California has two piers -- one in the Balboa section and the other in Newport proper.

This morning we drove to the ocean from the Inland Empire just for a change of scenery and to see the water. We miss our favorite little coastal town of Cayucos on California's Central Coast and we have not had the available time to get there (a 4-hour drive) since we departed on January 25, so a quick 45 minute drive west on the 91 Freeway got us to the waves.

We decided to have breakfast at Ruby's -- a restaurant at the end of the pier. The moment was lovely. The food was delicious.

As we walked toward the restaurant and past the sand below us, I stopped to capture a shot of the shore. The weekend storm surf had carved a serious bank. The sand looked lovely. I wanted to rip my shoes off and walk on it. But I didn't.

This was a good day.
