A Storm Approaches Buckie
We are hunkered down in our holiday cottage right at the harbour in the picturesque village of Gardenstown, a village built on many levels up a narrow vertiginous road rising from sea level to the main road at the top.
It lies in a sheltered cove next to the neighbouring village of Crovie, a tiny hamlet at the foot of high cliffs with no good access, just a tiny road only advised for use by service vehicles and the small number of residents.
The hunkering down was limited this morning, when we were thrust out into a world where winter had returned with a vengeance: gale force winds as if off the North Pole, hail, sleet, snow and occasional bursts of sunshine.
For His Lordship and I, it has been the worst weather of the winter- forget I have ever mentioned Spring. After getting a soaking at the harbour in Gardenstown, we drove along the coast to savour our favourite spots: Banff, Portsoy, Sandend, Cullen, Portknockie, Findochty, and Buckie, names in the rich heritage of the fishing industry in the North East.
Finally we were blown by a sleet shower into Elgin to have dinner with son#1 and family.
This blip was taken looking towards Buckie, with a hail storm approaching, when it was difficult to stand upright in the gale.
