Looking for food?

i often see flocks of birds outside eating something on the ground. Not sure what they are finding in the snow though.

We live in a small town 45 kilometres from Reykjavik, the capital city. To get to Reykjavik, we have to go over a mountain pass (that I can see from my lounge windows). Today the pass was closed for a long time because of the bad weather, snow and winds and cars got stuck. Fortunately there is an alternative route that bypasses the mountain, it is 10 km longer, but usually less weather battered.
