Vintage farming
Apart from shopping, I haven't been out today, so looked around the house for inspiration. Noticed this picture of my late father-in-law and thought it would make a nice retro blip.
I never met Frank, but I'm sure I would have liked him - he must have had some interesting tales to tell. He was a farmer and a champion ploughman with his 2 horses Maggie and Blossom (not the 2 pictured here). Moving from North Yorkshire he worked on the St Ives Estate and brought up his family of 7 children in one of the estate cottages at Cuckoo Nest. Once the family got a bit older they bought Brow Farm in the village. One of his sons went on to be a farmer, and the eldest trained as a carpenter, but later ended up in farming too.
The other sons also opted for the "outdoor life", but were steered away from farming by their father who said the hours were too long for not much pay. I'm sure he was right, but it was what they had wanted to do. 2 ended up on the local golf course and 1 in forestry. Chalk and cheese - I like my home comforts and cannot imagine working outside in all weathers!
