St Fillan's in Crieff

This is where I go to church.

I've blipped bits from round about before - for example, one of the stained glass windows, the garden fete on the front lawn, the grotto, and the altar to name a few.

Well, quite a lot when I look at it.

It's only a small church, maybe seating about 150. What you see there is the church on the left and the presbytery on the right with a later extension linking the two in the middle and providing additional seating.

I've always been a bit curious about the fact that priests live in presbyteries, but Ministers in the Presbyterian churches live in manses. What's that about?

This wee church however sits on a whacking great piece of land. There's a big carpark, a huge front lawn where the grotto is and behind where I was standing to take the photograph, a great big stone built church hall to the left of me out of pic, and a big paddock as well. Not to mention that the presbytery was built to house at least four priests and now there's only one. The houses round about are relatively new and I think that when the chapel was built (19th century) the land here must have been cheap and at the poorer end of the town.
