Thistle Down

By Ethel

Profanity

Profanity...has a cursing sound,
That mixes on the tongue.
He who uses it has cause,
For rejection...and no praises sung.

It really shows an ignorance,
That bears him down.
For want of better words to say,
Such dis-respect...that brings no crown.

It says the things that burn the soul,
Thinking that others might impress.
That others might admire his boldness,
And never of him...think less.

For God has said...Take not my name,
In vain...t'is heaven's blessed name.
And he...that lays on it a curse,
Lays on God's holiness...a stain.

For he that doth speak curses, doth defile,
The price is such a cost.
And by man's ugly and vain expressions,
The beautiful...is lost.
