Letting light in on magic

Rushed home to do an online tutorial this evening. I grabbed a bite to eat and brewed a mug of tea and sat down to wait. And wait. One student arrived. We agreed to wait 10 minutes for any latecomers and when nobody arrived we set sail together alone.

And here's how it works from my end. I was wearing a headset in order to talk. I had my mug of tea and music on in the background - I started with Dylan and moved onto Seasick Steve. I also had some sage incense burning to purge the space of confused and complicated auras. We were talking about variables and iteration; perhaps not the stuff for everyone but we putative technologists feel a stirring of the blood when a well constructed nested loop iterates over a collection and selects an item that meets pre-determined criteria. When it returns information from a parallel collection we tend to whoop with joy and that's what we were doing tonight.

The only downer in this seeming idyll is that something bit me on the arm while I was in the garden yesterday - there is a large and angry swelling which means I look rather like Popeye. It's also bitten my back so I might be adding Quasimodo to my repertoire of impersonations.

By the way - I'm risking my reputation as a pukka technologist by using words like "idyll" but I think I've got away with it amigos.
