Ingleton waterfalls walk

If you are ever in Ingleton and find yourself fancying a strenuous-in-places, four and half mile walk with some beautiful scenery along the way, then I highly recommend the waterfalls walk.

The price of admission is a little steep - £6 for adults and £3 for kids - but as you go 'round you can see that at least some of the money is being used on maintaining the route and making it safe. Which is no bad thing; at the age six The Minx fell from the path and was only saved by her dad grabbing her by her hair!

This story was told, along with some others, as we walked around today with the smaller children. The view in the photo above is the climax of the first section of the walk and The Minx has a photo of her and her siblings sat on the rock in the centre-bottom of the photo (behind the branch) taken thirty-two years ago.

Today, she decided to recreate the photo, which was hazardous enough to delight the kids but not so dangerous that I felt the need to strip down to my shorts in preparation for a water-based rescue. Eventually, the children were all on the rock with only one wet bottom and no notable injuries and The Minx took her photo.

From there, we still had some way left to go but everyone managed it, helped in part by the ice-cream van halfway 'round, sat incongruously on a rough track miles from anywhere. We're thinking of trying Ingleborough next :-)
