Ear infection :-(

I checked Eva's temperature while she slept as I came up to bed last night and it was normal, and she woke around 5 am, so I checked it then too and it was normal. I kept debating whether or not to take her to the doctors as she'd generally seemed ok in herself, it was just this unpredictable temperature that seemed to keep soaring around bedtime and fluctuating throughout the day. I decided I'd rather be told yes it is teething than risk her going unseen if she was poorly so rang when they opened at 8.30am and got her an appointment for 10.30. Eva was still sound asleep at 8.30 so I got on with some work while she slept. I could not believe it when I had to go in to wake her to get her ready to go at quarter to 10 this morning, she'd pretty much been in bed asleep since 7.30pm the night before! The second she opened her eyes and saw me she was grinning at me and baby signing "milk!"

Dr. Moore is so lovely. She gave Eva a very thorough examination and told me she'd got an ear infection in both ears and prescribed Amoxycillin to have 3 times a day :-( :-( :-( well, I felt terrible. I was so surprised that my baby girl had not cried in pain, pulled at her ears, done nothing to indicate she was suffering, other than being off her food and the high temperature, both of which I'd put down to teething. I could not believe she wouldn't have shown signs of being in pain with a double ear infection. That'll teach me huh? Saying that, the Dr did also say that they don't usually prescribe antibiotics for ear infections as they normally 'right' themselves in 2-3 days, but Eva was only just turned 1 and it was in both ears, so she prescribed it. She also said you shouldn't just go to the doctors with a high temperature, as high temperatures are common in babies and children, but go if they seem unwell. Well going on that advice I wouldn't have taken Eva today at all, so it's a good job I did take her I think, even though she may not have needed the antibiotics, I'd still rather know if Eva has an ear infection.

After Eva's sleep this afternoon, I took her round to my mom and Peter's as I'd got some appointments on for work. I packed her lunch, a yoghurt and a bottle and of course some toys. She'd been absolutely fine whilst I'd been gone, but clung to me so tightly when I got back to fetch her at around 5.30. I was pleased to hear she'd eaten most of her lunch and all of her yoghurt, but she hadn't really touched her bottle
:-( My mom is going to come here and look after Eva tomorrow morning while I go out to my appointments, as I really don't want to send her to nursery while she's poorly. I'm so grateful to my mom for offering, and relieved :-) :-) :-)

Eva was crying and clinging to me when we got home, she was so so shattered :-( I gave her a quick tea of some baby porridge and didn't even bother bathing her as she was obviously just longing for milk, cuddles and bed. I gave her a quick wash, got her into her babygrow then she had her milk, but could hardly stay awake so she was in her bed all tucked up with a normal temperature, fast asleep by 7pm tonight.

I didn't get a photo of Eva today, so I've taken one of her sleeping with the camera in her room. Lying in her usual 'across the cot' with her knees tucked up position Xxx
