Drift

The warnings started a week ago and the eminent threat started to fall in fat lazy flakes around 9:00 in the morning. By noon it was an earnest storm that reached a frenzy at 5.

The author of The Hungry Ocean was speaking on Champlain's campus. Word was that all other events were cancelled except her speaking engagement.

Eighteen inches had already fallen when I left all logic and the comfort of a warm house behind me and made my way across town.

Her talk was brief. I tromped through drifts back to my car. I slipped my phone from my pocket to catch ice swirling in the light. Glad I'm not at sea.
