Croxden Abbey

We've been away for a few days to stay with friends in Staffordshire. Tuesday afternoon they took us to the ruins of a Cistercian Abbey. Croxden Abbey was founded in 1176 at Cotton, five miles away and moved to Croxden 3 years later. The church was begun when the abbey moved here; it was completed and consecrated in 1250. The building had been vast and the remains stand on a beautifully lawned site.
