On this day in history

My parents got married. 1956, St Mary's parish church in Luton. They are the reason why I am a Lutonian, not always an easy honour to carry off as you occasionally have to bite your tongue when idiots who have never even visited the town bad mouth it because ........ well just because it is fashionable to do so and they are ignorant.

Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of things about the town that I don't like, but in the main, that is a result of misguided planning decisions, e.g. the Arndale which seemed like a great idea in the 70's, but what we really want is a high street with some character, and then of course there's the decline of industry which is always going to have implications and affects all towns with a similar demographic.

So ...... it was heartwarming to stumble upon this video at the weekend which was made by Museum Makers, an organization of volunteers formed to save the local museum which is threatened with closure in 3 years time unless it can become totally self funding. Another victim of government spending cuts but one the good citizens of Luton are not going to take lying down.

Now where did I put my dance shoes?
