Musings of a Mortal

Why can't I

Round to visit a good friend tonight to check out some new camping kit that he has purchased and also to try out a modified "Swedish candle"....

So after putting up the tarp and checking out the bivvy bag, tales of camping out in the wilds were abundant as were past cycling trips that we have undertaken - one memorable trip was a coast to coast of Scotland - Oban to South Queensferry - Mountain bikes and trailer...a great trip.

It was then that Peter got out this map of a proposed next trip - From, Durness in the far North West of Scotland - right down the west coast and finishing up at Campbeltown...total miles 436!!

Now it was at this point that more discussion was taking place about how feasible the trip could actually be, when Peter mentioned a quote from a book he is reading - Ranulph Fiennes latest tale of his adventures. In it he talks about the time he completed 7 marathons in 7 continents in 7 days! Most people would not even contemplate such craziness...but he did and he finished it...but the point he made at the end was this...

..when confronted with a great challenge, we will often say "I cant!" but if you add one word "Why" and rearrange the other two, you get the phrase......."Why can't I?".

A totally different mind shift..One being negative, the other will give you a fighting chance of maybe completing the challenge that awaits.

So the cycle......It looks tough - but then "Why can't I?"
