The Malvern Hills

I have walked on these hills for almost as long as I can remember and they are one of my favourite places. Last night we stayed in Malvern and had a short walk up to British Camp – an area fortified by the Romans. This morning the plan had been to do a much longer walk along the ridge to the Worcestershire Beacon which is the highest point in the photo.

Unfortunately the superb weather of the last week came to an abrupt end today and there was some very heavy rain just after this was taken making photography difficult – but I have featured this area on my blog a couple of times previously.

The Malvern Hills are a ridge of hills about 13 miles long and only 1200 feet high but are dominating as they rise on the edge of the extensive flat area to the east and north. This is the area where Sir Edward Elgar wrote many of his famous tunes and it is impossible for me to walk in this area without humming the best ones!
