Under the Floorboards

This is our dining room floor. A couple of months ago, we noticed the skirting board under the window was rotting away. We asked our local builder to come in and have a look and he said that water was getting in and we needed to get the slates outside fixed (the house is slate hung). So his men did that and did it very well - not a sign of damp through all the storms and today he came to replace the skirting board and check the joists.

There was some growth along the underneath of the floorboards, but it was dead, so he treated it, and there was some rot on the end of a joist, so he fixed another bit to that and treated everything in sight. Then he put it all back together, with a replacement floorboard in the window bay and replacement skirting board.

It now looks as good as new, with a nice firm floor and dry walls. We await the bill with interest (and some trepidation).
