Proper Tadpoles

The first tadpoles to hatch have now developed into proper tadpoles. They have lost their gills, their eyes have developed, as has their backbone and they are beginning to explore the pond. They are still staying reasonably close to the spawn, but they are swimming much more efficiently. There is still a mass of tadpoles which haven't reached this stage yet, and it should be quite interesting to see where they go when they have all developed.

Having had the builders in yesterday, I was just setting off on the bike this afternoon, when two friends called me over and said, "did you know you have a hole in your roof?" and pointed out where a couple of slates had slipped, leaving a gap. My heart sank, having heard the predictions of rain and strong winds for tomorrow.

When I got back from the ride, I phoned the builder and, bless his heart, he said they would be round first thing tomorrow morning to fix it before the rain came in. There's a lot to be said for keeping your business local.
