March 19th 2009 - In(ca) ruins
Apparently I had been talking in my sleep the night before, which is great to know as there is nothing I can do to control that! At least it took nearly half the trip before I started doing this, it didn’t take that long in Lorca! We were leaving Guamote today but before getting the bus there was a little time to explore the market with Sara, Mia and Josefine and to receive a little bit more of my Danish education.
The bus took us to Ingapirca, the largest Inca ruins in Ecuador. The ruins seemed simple but nice, with an awful lot of deterioration so nothing was anywhere near complete. Alpacas wandered about freely and they were nearly the blip but instead that goes to the whole group (minus me as photographer) atop the temple of the sun which, whilst looking fairly big, was originally even more impressive.
We arrived in Cuenca and made our way to Hostel Cafecito. I was in a room with the Louises, Camilla and Helle but the best thing about our room wasn’t the awesome inhabitants but a map on the wall showing Shakespeare’s England – including Southwold. Talk about making you think of home! As it was late in the day we went for tea (three courses of awesomeness involving pancakes, burgers and cheesecake) before some of us just chilled back at the hostel for coffee.
