Preparation pays off

After yesterday's over exertions I managed to make it down the garden today (we have quite a long garden tbf) for a bit of fresh air. The weather has taken a turn for the worse but so far we've not returned to flooding. The far end of the garden will eventually be an orchard, and the foreground of this picture is from the middle of the raised vegetable plots; there are seven in total, all roughly twelve foot by four.
The days of nice weather before the operation were spent digging them over and carting compost over to them from the compost bins just past the fire pit in the top right of the shot. Now Cat can start putting out the plants that have made it through the winter in the greenhouse & hopefully I'll be up to a trip to the nursery with her in the next few days to collect seed potatoes, onions and other goodies. The purple broccoli, garlic and rhubarb are all already well under way so its a good start food wise at least to this year of miserable weather.
Last year about a quarter of our fruit and veg came out of the garden - hopefully this year we can do even better.
