Peace Line
Just arrived home after a couple of days in Belfast. This was my second visit and both times I was totally captivated by how a very friendly city functions day by day with two vastly contrasting communities. Today I drove alongside the peace wall separating Catholic Republicans & Protestant Nationalists. This peace line was built in 1969 and was only meant to stay for 6 months but due to it's effective nature became permanent. There is a police station at the end of it marshalled when tensions rise as they are on the most dangerous roundabout in Europe just up the street at the moment as both communities yell at each other cross the road. Fascinating as I say but upsetting too. A beautiful city steeped in history
