4000 Islands waterfalls
Woke up pretty early and sat on the balcony watching the sunrise over the Mekong. We got up and moved our bags from this place to the tepees. It is nearly 3 times more expensive to stay at the tepees but it looks about 20 times cooler and the group of people hanging around are amazing. Anyway we just dumped our bags and decided to go exploring around the islands. As soon as we started we bumped into Tim the guy we met in Vang Vieng.
It was great to see him again, but we still had to go to the waterfalls on the adjacent island called Don Krong,so it was a small hello. They are the largest (by volume) waterfalls in South Asia and looked absolutely amazing. It was not just one waterfall but multiple waterfalls coming from all different locations. At the end of the trail there is an amazing cafe where you can chill out or play volleyball.
I didn't want to leave the cafe but we still had to see the river dolphins and so jumped back on the motorbike. It was really cheap to hire a boat and go into the middle of the river to see them. We saw about 6 dolphins multiple times and we were pretty close. The dolphins are becoming endangered though and eventually if things keep going the way they are they will become extinct. After this we took the motorbike back to the nice man who we hired it from. He gave me my passport back and were just about to leave when......
All hell broke loose and he demands another £4 from me as he claimed I had it for two days!!! Does he know who I am and how tight I actually am?5555. He said the motorbike was meant to be back at 6am!!! It was a total scam and obviously I refused to pay him anymore money. So I tried to walk away and he started grabbing my wrists and shouldering me in the chest(That's how tall he was). He was a 60 year old Chinese man so I reckon if Alison jumped in we both could have taken him.
After an hour of arguing I tried to walk away again and he tried the same again. This time I just shoved him as nicely as I could out the way and this went on for about 20 metres. His wife eventually calmed him down and he went back to his shop. He then chased after us and for a laugh I picked up a 5 metre piece of bamboo and tried to keep him at bay. I then put the bamboo down and just shoved him a few more times and he eventually gave up. The morale of the story is DO NOT let anyone try and scam you when abroad as this will just encourage the scum bags to do it more and more.
After all that excitement we went back to the tepees and had a chat with all the people in camp and the atmosphere was amazing. An Israeli man was collecting money for dinner so me and alison said we would join them. He cooked in the kitchen for about 3 hours with the help of a few others and what he produced was amazing. It was a massive curry, salad, tsakkei, chilli fries, green beans, rice and potatoes. The food was absolutely stunning and it turns out he is a chef in Israel. The whole experience of this campsite was just absolutely amazing and I just wish we could stay a bit longer. Off to bed for the first time in a tepee!!!
