Height of Flood

Perth is subject to occasional flooding. The worst problem occurs when heavy rain falls on preceding snow in the early winter. The snow on the hills hasn't had time to compact down and is melted by the rain.

Marks on Perth Bridge show the heights reached by historical floods. The flood of 1993 can be seen on the right of the picture (view large) and caused significant damage to the city. Fortunately we now have an extensive flood defence system to prevent a recurrence.
