Clutha Gold Bike Trail
Biked 46 km today, a 2 rating, from Lawrence to Millers Flat. Certainly grunty in many places, but the views of the mighty Clutha River and surrounding countryside was magnificent. My blip is the Clutha, which looks quite placid and small, but we are high looking over the willow trees to the river. Further up is the Roxburgh Dam which was started to be built back in 1949. At the time it was the biggest concrete dam in the Southern Hemisphere.
We biked with our friends, but started at each end, met at the Beaumont Pub for a well earned lunch and refreshments, gave the car keys to the other couple and parted company for the final 26 km for us and 19 km for them biking to the vehicle. They drove to the other end and picked us up...worked out well.
I must admit, the last 5 km I was feeling pretty tired, as we had a very strong nor-wester to battle into as well as the steady incline also.
We're having a relaxing time now, I'm waiting for the shower then drinkies and food later.
We are heading home tomorrow.
Rainie.
