The new hide
I took a day off work today, and it turned out to be a beautiful, sunny day with a biting cold wind. Before lunch, I took a spin down to Loch Stiapavat, at the northern end of Lewis, to get this shot of the construction crew just putting on the turf roof to the new bird hide. This is a great wee loch for passing migrants, and some quite exotic birds have been spotted here over the years. The hide is being constructed by the local Community Land Trust (owned by the community) to enhance the natural environment of the estate. Another not-for-profit initiative that is not seen on most privately owned estates!
