Lopped or pollarded?

I was waiting this evening at North Berwick station to meet my brother off the train to visit our mother. This tree by the car park and the freshly cut branches were catching the street light.

Some of them looked a reasonable size. So was the tree lopped - where I think of thinner branches being cut - or pollarded?
