101 Ways to Die...

Did you know it used to be dangerous to go to the toilet in Victorian times? Well it did...the introduction of sewers and all the new pipes might have made big improvements to health but some people died in Salford through exploding loos. Apparently methane used to build up and when someone went for a crafty smoke on the toilet.....kabooooom!!

Carole and I went to Salford Museum to another Histories Festival event today...101 Ways to Die on Larkhill Place. We went onto the Victorian Street and were told how the people of Salford died in 1889, it was fascinating, there were dangers round every corner.

Mrs Driver, the Bleeder, was a real woman and her great granddaughter visited Larkhill Place recently. Some people died from bleeding because the leeches had been sourced from unsavoury places and passed on infections...oooh it was all good stuff.

We then went to the Old Hall for something to eat. Carole fancied a glass of wine and their wine of the month was a Lebanese one, she'd never tried one from there before so decided to give it a go. A good choice said the waiter. A different waiter brought the whole bottle instead of just a glass so I decided I'd have a glass too. "You've made an excellent choice," she said as she poured....ding ding ding ding....we just didn't hear those alarm bells. It was very smooth and slipped down nicely...good food and good wine...we then asked for the bill. No wonder it was so good....it cost £40 a bottle !!! Oh well, sometimes you just have to enjoy the good stuff ha ha ha.
