Crested China 6 - Yeovil, Somerset
With a rather grey day and my original picture taken in a hurry and subsequently not good enough to download, I have resorted to another piece from the collection.
Apart from Hampshire, Surrey, Kent and Essex, Somerset is another of my most favourite counties. Yeovil is a large town close to the border with Dorset in the far SE of the county and at one time had a good number of railway stations. The centre of the town still has many old buildings and the parish church is usually considered one of the most interesting in Somerset with a lot of notable stained glass windows. Despite growth in recent years of the town, the district around contains many unspoilt villages and small towns all of which have been rigorously marketed by the local tourist authority with the punchy slogan of "Share The Secret".
Some years ago, after my father died, Mum and I stayed close to Wincanton and visited Yeovil for the day. We spent a lot of time walking around and when we got home, Mum was so tired that she felt unwell. Fortunately, the next day Mum was much better, but the resulting condition which occurs from time to time usually after doing too much includes feeling cold and sick and has been named ever since in the family as Yeovil Sickness!
