Loher Fort
Apart from a brief glimpse of sunshine the weather was quite miserable today, we managed a circular walk starting a Caherdaniel, walking along Derrynane bach then followin an old mass path and joinin the Kerry Way walking route, we got pretty wet and it was sodden underfoot!
By the afternoon it was blowing a gale and even wetter. ED spotted Loher fort through the mist and so we waited for a brief let up in the rain to run onto the site for a quick lookand a few photos. Along with Cahergal and Leacanabuaile, the two other forts we visited, they are over a thousand years old and were really fortified farmsteads, probably inhabited by the local chieftain. These three have all been excavated and restored.
