Bassenthwaite Lake from Ouse Bridge: a BackBlip
Early morning, checking out the overnight snow on Skiddaw and a couple of early bird Oystercatchers near the Lake. But this view uplake from the outlet (R Derwent) at Ouse Bridge was the one for me.
'Bassenthwaite' is the ONLY Lake in the whole Lake District. All the rest are 'Waters', Tarns', 'Meres', etc. For example, there is no 'Lake Windermere' — that's like saying 'Lake Winderlake'.
In a similar way, in Scotland there is only one lake: the Lake of Menteith. The rest are lochs or lochans.
