Early morning at the Park
Well todays blip is the trees at the park we walk around every morning. We are very fortunate in having this park with a walking track right around the perimeter.
The trees have quite a story attached to them. Back about 1900 a Mr Hoare from the Hoare bank England came here and purchased a lge tract of land called Raincliff station. A large station that ran both sheep and cattle. He brought with him the seeds of many English trees Elms, Ashes. etc and from America he brought many Sequoia Gigantiums in pots. These trees he planted out at Raincliff and some of the left overs were planted in our park. There are Wellingtonians and Red Woods still there today along with many other specimen trees. The Hoare Bank in Fleet street in London is still there and my friend who owned and lived at Raincliff Station for many years presented to the bank on a visit a bowl made from one of the original elms.
Now again that station is owned by people from England who have immigrated out here following their dream.
I love this particular group of trees their trunks different every day according to the light. In the background you can see the Blackcurrants that are farmed next door and just along a bit the deer that I blipped the other day.
