One of the girls

This is one of our three chickens - Rhode Island Reds. We have friends whose home was flooded during Hurricane Sandy a few years ago and they had chickens. At one point they had the chickens in cages on the second floor balcony because that's how high the water got. They had extensive clean up, so we went when the water receded and took their 5 chickens and we also took a few of their turkeys. We are now down to three chickens - two of them have died over the years. Sometimes they go a few months without laying any eggs, but then they start up again and we get two eggs a day, usually. I always call them "the girls".
