Scenes from everyday life

King George V

George V was king from 1910-1936. He was born in 1865 and so is the from the same generation as my great-grandparents.

He developed the modern concept of the Royal Family as a symbol of respectability. His hobbies were shooting wildlife and collecting stamps. He changed the name of the Royal Family from Saxe-Coburg-Gotha to Windsor during the First World War to rid it of German overtones.

His statue is outside Westminster Abbey.
