The aviary
I walked the dogs with Jenny today past this aviary which I have visited since I was a little girl and is soon to be closed. Until a year ago there used to also be rabbits and guinea pigs scuttling about in the bottom of the aviary. Both myself, my girls, my god daughters and countless other local children have spent happy times stuffing bits of carrots through the enclosure walls and watching the birds and animals. The council are trying to save £50,000 by making the park keepers redundant and so there will be no one to look after these birds and also the animals at Longford Park. My boss and I are worried that although the closure seems imminent there seems to have been no steps taken to re home the birds and rabbits. We are the vets that the local council use. My boss phoned them yesterday to say that we would absolutely not agree to euthanasing any of these perfectly healthy animals just because no one has bothered to rehome them. I was hoping to see a sign today advertising the birds to good homes but there is not one up yet.
I went to the gym this morning, had a good cuppa catch up with Nicki and Gillian, took Heidi dancing, walked the dogs in the rain and had a catch up with Jenny. Lucy, Hector and Hugh joined us and Jane, Lottie and Jessie for NCT tea after school. I made another birthday cake as it's Lotties birthday tomorrow. Lottie had a party so they left early and India and Hugh played for ages building the Lego school with the Frozen soundtrack in the background. They used to play every week since they were babies but we haven't seen Hugh in ages. Lucy and I were so pleased they had a good time. My friend delivered a delicious curry for dinner as her mother in law has started a new homemade takeaway business. Fred came round and so Mark just managed a hello and has been whisked away on beer business.
