Weeds

The Red Dead Nettles, Lamium purpureum, are doing so well this year. They're flowering in profusion and there is no way of keeping them at bay. I don't mind. They're so pretty even though they're a gardeners nightmare.

My favourite definition of weeds is that they're natures plants which are growing in the wrong place. The Red Dead Nettle is wonderful for attracting bees and, for the adventurous cooks out there, the young leaves are edible. Try them boiled as a cooked veg or the most tender of leaves are lovely in a salad!
