Gomshall Mill

Gomshall Mill is now a thriving bar and restaurant but there are those that remember it when it was still grinding corn for bread.

A mill, powered by the Tillingbourne, was recorded in the doomsday book. Although the original mill has long gone, the present building is thought to have been erected on the original foundations and parts of it date as early as 1600.

I was able to get in before opening time and the viewing windows were unlocked so I could take some photos of the old mechanics. This wheel was converted in 1839. Originally the water hit the wheel from the underside but, to make it more powerful and efficient, it was changed so the flow would drive two wheels, water hitting the top.

If you are in the area... the grubs good and there are other original features to feast your eyes on!
