Scouse of the border
Mr A was working today but didn't want to miss the last few hours of sunshine, so I was instructed to be ready for biking when he got home.
I'm glad I was as it was a glorious day; the temperature was just perfect for riding around.
We ended up in Crosby, which is somewhere we failed to find on a previous ride out. Mr A wanted to see the Another Place Iron Men.
There are 100 of these placed along a 3km stretch of beach; all facing out to sea. Some are partially submerged, whilst some are full size (all made from a cast of the artist Anthony Gormley).
From there we rode into Liverpool to see the Stanley Dock Tobacco Warehouse.
Mr A wanted to see this up close (he saw it from a distance when he went to a gig in Liverpool last year).
Stanley Dock Tobacco Warehouse (Stanley Dock, Liverpool, England) is a grade II listed building and is the world's largest brick warehouse. Standing 125 feet (38 m) high, the building was, at the time of its construction in 1901, claimed to be the world's largest building in terms of area. The 14 storey building spans across 36 acres (150,000 m2) and its construction used 27 million bricks, 30,000 panes of glass and 8,000 tons of steel.
It was amazing to see, even in its derelict state. I imagined how busy it must have been in its heyday.
We've had such a nice afternoon and learned a bit of history along the way. Not bad for a lazy Sunday!
