All Souls Cathedral

Part of the Episcopal Diocese of Western North Carolina, this church was built by George Washington Vanderbilt II when he needed a church for his daughter's wedding. The church is just outside the Biltmore Estate, the location of the Vanderbilt's home. It was built in 1896. The brochures say the Biltmore House took 6 years, and the labor of 1,000 men. I try to imagine the conversation after his daughter's engagement when the topic turned to where to have the wedding, and Dad says, "I'll have a church built." The church is on the National Register of Historic Places.
