The gathering of the flocks
Winter is a fairly silent time if we step out of the house (apart from the snow mobiles!) but spring is now under way and that silence is broken by the swans and geese that are travelling up the coast through Sweden towards their northern territories.
I watched two geese fly directly over our house. A short way further on they came in sight of the lake and immediately the geese on the lake started honking and those in the air replied and then they all got very excited until the flying geese landed and joined their colleagues on the lake.
Some will stay with us but most continue northwards past mid-Sweden.
Just now there is still a lot of ice on the lakes so the swans and geese are concentrated into these pools of open water. They climb out onto the ice sometimes but immediately a threat (such as a photographer seeking the day's blip) comes into sight they head for the water. These particular swans are right next to the main road running up the coast of Sweden.
After taking the photo I continued to the airport and flew south against the flow of natures migrants. Now I'm in Karlskrona on the south coast of Sweden for a couple of days.
