One Year a Widow

Looking back from a safe distance
it was not unexpected
but arduous,
wrenching,
defining.
It affirmed my faith in those I call 'friend'
and distinguished that which I call 'faith'.
While affording some peace,
it claimed some peace.
It awarded responsibilities I did not need
and did not seek.
It affirmed that we have within us that which
is greater than our circumstance,
bigger than our vision,
wider than our understanding.
I see change,
growth,
improvement and a measure
of optimism quite unexpected.
