Shoot a shoot

I moved a plant pot looking for worms for the chickens and this little shoot popped up.

I tried taking a photo of it next to a match stick to show the scale but the match ruined the picture.

The stem is the thickness of a match and the tip is just a tiny bit bigger than a match tip. How inconvenient it would be for a match to be shaped the same. Lots of burnt fingers!
