Gone, but always in our hearts

Another victim of cancer…

Dear Aunt Millie…

This is my last letter to you … I had planned to write today and send you some pictures from your brother’s memorial service last week. I know you would have loved seeing his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren all gathered to honor and remember him. And I know that it saddened you not to be able to be there yourself. But you were very much in our hearts and conversations during our time together. And I thought that my last letter to you would come with a photo of you and your brother, my father-in-law, taken during one of the many family gatherings at our home in New Jersey. Happier times…

I’ve told you this before, but you were a remarkable woman. Born to working class Italian immigrant parents, you never let anything define or hold you back. You married, you divorced, you had children and grandchildren, you earned a PhD, and you were the glue that held your family together. You found the love of your life and lived with him until you left us this week. When family spats broke out, you brokered peace treaties. You kept the relationships with two brothers who weren’t always easy to get along with. And through it all, you loved everyone with a passion.

You were always quick to tell those closest to you that you loved them – and what a gift that was to us all. Yes, you were a remarkable woman. You were loved so very much, and you will always be in our hearts.

Love,
Debbi

I am leaving comments off today. Just give someone you love an extra hug.
