The canals at Stroud

Following a brilliant time last night and an overnight stay in Salisbury, we moved on to Stroud. Being used to the Kennet and Avon Canal, it came as a bit of a shock to see a canal so badly silted up. We called in to the visitor centre, got some information about the sterling work that's being done to bring the canals back to life and made a donation.

Later on in the day, having checked into our hotel, we walked down to and along the towpath of the Stroudwater Navigation from Stroud to Stonehouse and back again, a round trip of about 8 miles, and so we saw much of the fruits of the volunteers' hard work.
