The Evening Cloud
We've been doing the tourist thing today ! And went over to the Coromandel on the ferry from Auckland. It's been a beautiful day blue sky a sun.
First of all we had a bit of lunch then we were taken by bus to The Driving Creek Railway which has been created by a guy called Barry Brickell, firstly to collect clay for the Potteries, later for tourists.
The train runs on narrow gauge rails and zig zags up a steep scrub/ forest. It became open to the public in 1990. At the very top Barry has built a tower for people to view the area from.
My photo was going to be the train but instead I've chosen " The Evening Cloud"
The lights on the water when we got back to the wharf made me get the phone out!!
The Cloud was built on the pier along side shed No Ten .
The Coromandel got its name from an English ship that went there to harvest the Kauri trees that Captain Cook had seen previously, the logs were used for ships masts,
Dams were formed in the streams and the huge straight trees were felled and put into the water of the dams, which were then burst open to let the logs sweep down to the bay where they were loaded onto the awaiting ship.
Hope alls we'll at home Bin!
