Military history

I led a guided walk this afternoon for the Sussex military history society taking them across various sites on the commons from a Napoleonic field kitchen, past the first world war training trenches and second world war searchlight position to the cold war observer corps post. The trenches are very extensive and have recently been cleared of trees and shrubs so that a proper survey and archaeological investigations can be conducted later this month.
