Tree Hugging for beginners...
Treehugging is good for you and it probably does the tree no harm either. So today we went treehugging for fun and greater good of society to visit a tree I spotted when on a secret mission last week.
The Woodland Trust has launched a project to find unrecorded ancient trees or The Ancient Tree Hunt The're asking people to go find and register tree that may be very old and may need protection.
It seems the way to know if a tree is very old is by the girth, with anything over 5 metres or 16 feet considered a likely candidate. Well our beech comes in at a whopping 5.7 metres so we could be on an 'oldie'......and if you don't have a tape measure give it a hug.
One hug equals 1.5 metres - join the hugs and you've got the size.
Anyway it's now registered as our 'big' tree and I feel very proud...........and this is our registered little tree.
