Hypocaust

The last day of our short holiday, and we drove home the scenic route, visiting Chedworth Roman Villa and Chastleton House on the way.

This may not be the best photograph of the mosaics at Chedworth, but I like it because it shows how the mosaic floor is balancing on the pillars of the hypocaust. If you look carefully, it looks as though there's a second mosaic under the top one, and a layer of painted plaster below them both.
