The Alliance

This is a new sculpture in the newly opened St David's 2 Centre in Cardiff. It isn't quite finished, there is still a barrier around it but I couldn't resist this as a blip when I walked through with friends after a meal out.

"Designed by French artist Jean-Bernard Metais, the 25-metre-tall arrow and hoop is meant to symbolise Cardiff?s bright future, with a nod to its past." So says the Western Mail.

Apparently it is supposed to rise and fall with the tides and although it isn't finished I can't quite see how it is supposed to do this unless an entire section of pavement lifts up and down, because there is no way the loop itself can rise without the pavement making way for it... I'll have to go back again when it is done.

But hey! I like it.
