OSTRICH TOES?

If you have ever examined an ostrich's toes you would also feel sorry for this lovely succulent.(Pleiospilos compactus)...also a mouthful!
Normally we expect them to flower in the Spring. We noticed that a few plants are flowering in the veld now and also this plant in a shady secluded spot in our dry garden.
In the wild the leaves are baked by the hot sun and do have a freckled horny look unlike the delicate green of their cultivated sister in my garden.
Nature ensures that the species are not wiped out by having a few plants shed seeds after rain through out the year.
