Balinese Dance

We went to a performance of the Barong Dance at the Ubud Palace. The Barong is a lion-dog creature that is played by two men in a large suit. Even though the Barong is the more famous part of the dance, it features a whole cast of characters - women in brightly colored clothing with dramatic eye makeup, men weilding kris (swords), a trick-playing monkey, and a terrible witch with long fingernails. It features loud, dramatic music and tells a story about good and evil. It was very cool to watch!
