Pipes, Nibs and Finns
Had a lovely night at the Usher Hall tonight, and I blipped the stage half an hour before the start of the concert (SCO doing Vaughan Williams and Sibelius). I love the anticipation ahead of an orchestral performance, having experienced an amateur version backstage at Paisley Town Hall while a member of the Renfrewshire Schools Concert Band some time in the eighties.
What I don't care for is the uncomfy seats with my knees up at my chin. I'd far rather lounge in a beanbag in the aisle, looking at the ceiling, and focusing on the music. I distracted myself from the cramp by admiring how neatly the giant organ pipes were lined up, like a row of brushed steel pens with golden nibs. Now that's soothing.
